Doctor Who: “The Snowmen” review of sorts
Hello friends!
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas yesterday, and even if you don’t celebrate, had a nice day regardless.
Me and my family sat down later in the evening and despite Max’s loud excitement over Lego Batman and my mum’s vocal attempts at figuring out how to work Robb’s new tablet PC we managed to watch the Doctor Who Christmas special
Now I haven’t really gone into detail on my thoughts over the last half a series but let’s just say I was pretty disenfranchised, so I went into this with low expectations but high hopes. All in all it was pretty watchable but given that it was a one-off episode I think it tried too hard to set up a new theme and story for the following series in… April? I think
As a Christmas special it was pretty weak (I actually think the word “Christmas” was uttered once) which tells me most of what they featured in this episode could have waited until the actual series’ relaunch in order to let them focus on a better story to tide us over
I’m prepared to give the upcoming series another chance because I hope, I hope that stretching out the development over more episodes will give the big changes more chance to grow, even though the DW team seem to insist on burying any real development in flash and a constant background score
But I really don’t want to find myself sticking with this show in the hope it gets better when it’s clearly not, because when that happens it will officially become my Glee and I can’t have that
Below the jump is a sort of real-time review, feel free to have a read if you like! (It does contain spoilers and real opinions, so if you haven’t seen it or don’t like people criticising things you like even when they’re not great I suggest you move along and enjoy your Boxing Day!)
